- 1 cetriolo medio

(ENGLISH VERSION)
Uric acid is a substance produced by the human body, in response to the synthesis of purines. Uric acid circulates in the blood and the kidneys are the organs involved in its elimination.
It may happen, however, that this substance is not eliminated properly from our organism, depositing and precipitating in joints and connective tissue.
High levels of uric acid, in fact, generate a condition known by the name of “hyperuricemia”.
After a while, this can lead to the creation of uric acid crystals which, deposited in the joints, tendons and surrounding tissues, triggering a reaction of the organism with consequent inflammation of the part.
Thus, we have symptoms such as redness, swelling, pain, stiffness and heat. An aggravation of this condition can lead to a disease known with the name of “gout”.
While this condition can be a signal of the presence of kidney problems, your diet plays a very important role in the treatment of gout and in the elimination of uric acid crystals from the joints. Counterproductive in this case would be for example eating foods rich in purines or drink very little water.
However, there are a series of habits and foods that can help our body to eliminate the excess of uric acid. Among these, a fundamental role is composed of the cucumbers.
Benefits of cucumbers
Cucumbers are a basic vegetable, with diuretic and depurative properties that facilitate the elimination process of uric acid. In addition, if compared to other foods, it has a very low content of purines: 7.3 mg in 100 grams of food.
Their high water content also helps the body to eliminate waste substances. That is why eating this food, or drinking the juice, can help in the treatment of gout.
Now, here is the recipe of a juice based on cucumber and not only, that can help people who suffer from joint pain, caused by excessive deposition of uric acid crystals in the body.
In addition to cucumber, we have also celery and ginger, two ingredients from well-known anti-inflammatory properties.
Here’s what you need:
- 1 medium cucumber
- 2 stalks of celery 1
- lemon slice
- a piece of ginger root
How to make it:
- Clean the ingredients.
- Cut the cucumber slices, so as to adapt them to the extractor.
- Do the same with the celery stalks.
- Cut the lemon in half and save the rest .
- Peel the ginger root.
- Add the ingredients in your juicer and initiated the process.
This juice should be drunk until you notice some improvement. Of course, it is important to associate a diet suited to lower uric acid levels in the body.
But the juice of cucumber might not be the only useful ingredient to our purpose.
According to research published in the Journal of Functional Foods, cherries would be able to change the metabolism of uric acid, thereby reducing the joint pain. A benefit that affects both on the actual levels of uric acid in the body, that on those of C-reactive protein, which measures the degree of generalized inflammation.
