To enhance the benefits of turmeric, improving the absorption of its active ingredient, curcumin, combining it to certain foods and a pinch of pepper …
On properties of turmeric we have said very much in recent years. The benefits of this powder with an intense yellow color are really a lot:
- turmeric prevents and reduces inflammation,
- strengthens the immune system,
- is a miraculous anti-aging,
- cleans,
- helps digestion,
- cure infections.
Turmeric is taken as a supplement in tablet or powder, as the main ingredient in herbal teas and drinks or in addition to other dishes. Just a teaspoon of turmeric, added to soups, rice, vegetables and fish sauce, to stock the right daily dose of antioxidants.
With pepper and some fat, curcumin is better absorbed
So that the active ingredients of turmeric (curcumin is the principal) are absorbed by the body, however, it is good to follow some advice.
Curcumin, in fact, has a low bioavailability, that is, it is available only in a minimum part for our body since a large percentage of that taken is expelled with urine and feces, regardless of the amount of dust that is ingested.
- Then to increase the bioavailability, turmeric should be taken together with
- fatty foods (curcumin is fat-soluble),
- black pepper (piperine promotes the absorption of curcumin),
- to a higher than ambient temperature (also the heat increases the solubility of the curcumin, just the warm-up period no longer than 15 minutes).
Add turmeric to the evening soup
To implement these tips in your kitchen, do this:
- Add the turmeric to salads, and soups (the latter two are eaten hot, and further promote the absorption of the active ingredients) that season with extra virgin olive oil, linseed oil or ghee.
- Prepare a supplement to be taken in the morning on an empty stomach: Take a teaspoon of linseed oil and add us half a teaspoon of turmeric and a pinch of freshly ground pepper.
